HOUSE ON THE HILL, Mammy Pleasant's Story Opening October 18, 2008 SATURDAYS - 3PM & 6PM In a year with the first female candidate for Vice President and the first African American candidate for President, the Playhouse Theatre Players present the story of the First African American Female Millionaire...MARY ELLEN PLEASANT. An abolitionist, active in the Underground Railroad, Mary Ellen's fight with the Omnibus Railway Company ended with her being the first to win equal rights for African Americans to ride public transportation. (Almost 100 years before Rosa Parks.) But her enemies accused her of being a Voodoo Priestess, a Madame and a murderess. An example of 19th century mudslinging? You decide. TICKET PRICE: $25.00
